ESTERHAZY – Update: Carlyle RCMP have found the suspect driver and the stolen car in this case at a residence near Carlyle.

Aaron Kenneth Olney, 37, was arrested and taken into custody without incident. He's facing a number of charges including assault with a weapon; committing an assault carrying a weapon; uttering threats to cause death; possession of a firearm while prohibited; using a firearm while committing an indictable offence; pointing a firearm; possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence; possession of a firearm knowing it was obtained by the commission of an offence; theft under $5,000; and theft of a motor vehicle.

Olney's first court appearance on these matters is scheduled for Jan. 5 in Yorkton, and police are continuing their investigation.

Original release: Police are alerting people in and around Esterhazy to be on the lookout for a possibly armed and potentially dangerous man. Members of the Esterhazy, Carnduff, and Carlyle RCMP are currently conducting patrols and investigating this ongoing event.

In the early morning hours of Jan. 3, police received a report of an assault at a home north of Langenburg.

“Officers responded immediately,” RCMP said. “Initial investigation determined the vehicle was stolen from the Langenburg and Esterhazy area following the commission of a violent offence.”

The stolen vehicle is a dark blue 2011 Chrysler 300 car with Manitoba licence HLV 980.

“Initial investigation determined the car may be in an area southeast of Carlyle, but the exact location and destination is unknown,” said RCMP.

Police are asking members of the public to report any sightings of the stolen car or any information that could aid their investigation. They also strongly urge not to approach the vehicle or the driver, rather to contact police immediately.
