SASKATOON – Police have charged two men with arson for two separate structure fires over the weekend.

Jordan Leigh Duerksen, 31, of Saskatoon has been charged with arson with disregard for human life in connection to a multi-unit fire in the 1600 block of 1st Ave. North on April 2. All occupants were reported to have self-evacuated.

Duerksen made his first appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court Monday.

Man charged with two fires

A 24-year-old Saskatoon man has been charged with starting a structure fire in the 300 block of Whitney Avenue СÀ¶ÊÓƵ on April 2. Firefighters from the Saskatoon Fire Department put out the fire. Saskatoon police obtained video from the homeowner of a suspect and determined that the fire had been deliberately set.

He was arrested after an unrelated call for service for a disturbance in the 500 block of Avenue T North the following day, which resulted in police locating and arresting the suspect in the arson.

Story corrected to say that the 24-year-old man was charged with starting one fire, and not two.
