Update: Rae Street death ruled homicide

EMS confirmed man deceased at scene, say police

REGINA – Update: Police have confirmed that a death investigation that began Wednesday in the 1600 block of Rae street is now a homicide investigation.

On April 5 at around 2:35 a.m., police were called to the home for a report of a weapons offence.

"Early information provided to police suggested a male was injured inside the residence," RPS said in a media release. "Patrol officers attended and located the body of an adult male, who was confirmed deceased by EMS."

The man who died was identified as Justin Michael Lankey, 33, and his next of kin have been notified.

Through police investigation, Mitchell Ernest Sanderson, 37, of Regina has been charged with manslaughter. He made a first appearance in Provincial Court this morning.

This is the second homicide in Regina for 2023.

Original Report: Police and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are investigating a death that occurred on the 1600 block of Rae Street.

Conducted by the RPS Major Crimes Unit, there are few details in this early stage of the investigation.
