PRINCE ALBERT - Farica Prince, Deputy Chief of Police for Prince Albert Police Service, is lending her time to support a great local cause.

Prince is volunteering as a participant at the annual Swinging with the Stars fundraiser in support of Hope’s Home, which provides childcare and medical support to children with complex medical needs.

“Prince Albert has this special ability as a community, to uplift and empower each other,” said Prince about СÀ¶ÊÓƵ invited to participate in Swinging with the Stars.

“The community comes together and does amazing things, just like this, that create connection, identity and belonging. Being a part of that cohesiveness is pretty exciting and I’m happy to be able to contribute, likely with some laughs along the way.”

Prince is partnered with professional dancer and instructor, Modeste McKenzie who is from La Ronge but calls Prince Albert home. Although Prince has some dance experience and has travelled North America competing as a jingle dress dancer, she is experiencing Modeste’s energetic dance style for the first time. She regularly attends powwows and round dances, most recently representing her service at the FSIN Spirit of our Nations Cultural Celebration and Powwow in Saskatoon, and at a mini round dance hosted by the Prince Albert Indian and Métis Friendship Centre.

Helping children is close to her heart and Prince is a continuous supporter of fundraisers and resources that support sick children and their families.

Swinging with the Stars pairs local community leaders with professional dancers for a fun, high-energy dance competition. Dance duos help fundraise for Hope’s Home and perform on stage before a live audience. The team that receives the most donations earns the title of “Crowd Favourite.”

This year’s event will be held March 18 at the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre. Tickets go on sale Jan. 31.

The last Swinging with the Stars event in Prince Albert raised more than $200,000 for services and medical equipment for Hope’s Home.
