SASKATOON - Update 3: Saskatoon police have arrested a 24-year-old man following an assault Saturday morning.
Khew Moccasin is charged with assault with a weapon, assault, uttering threats to cause death, careless use of a firearm, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He appeared in Saskatoon court on Monday.
Police say that at about 6 a.m. on April 8, they were called to the 400 block of Pendygrasse Rd for a report of a domestic disturbance involving a weapon.
A man inside was threatening people inside with a shotgun. Police arrived and found a 22-year-old woman who had been assaulted had exited the home but the suspect remained inside said police.
The SPS Tactical Support Unit was called in to assist patrol officers, in setting up a perimeter around the area. At approximately 9:15 a.m., Moccasin exited the residence, and was arrested without further incident. A search of the residence recovered a 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition.
Update 2: Residents of Fairhaven say that there was a heavy police presence Saturday afternoon including a police tactical unit, the canine unit, and several patrol vehicles at an apartment building in the neighbourhood.
Some residents said police had used loud speakers to holler at someone inside the building saying they were under arrest. Other residents said they believed there were more than a dozen police vehicles.
Police haven't provided an updated yet on their investigation.
Update: Police say foot and vehicle restrictions in the 400 block of Pendygrasse Road have been lifted and the public is free to move in and through the area as usual.
Police remain on scene and their investigation continues.
