SASKATOON – Thirty-one-year-old Andrew Ek, who was arrested in a raid in Rosetown in August, was denied bail in Saskatoon Provincial Court Monday. There is a ban on publication of the details of Ek’s show cause hearing.
Ek’s co-accused, Brandon Hipfner, was granted bail Monday. A third charged, Jaiden Rosen, 23, was the first to be released in September.
Ek, Hipfner, and Rosen were arrested after the RCMP tactical unit SERT (Saskatchewan Enforcement Response Team) raided a home at 708 Herkimer Street in Rosetown early in the morning on Aug. 23.
All three have been charged with attempted murder and numerous firearms-related offences. Ek was additionally charged with possession of weapons (firearm and a taser) contrary to a court order. Hipfner was additionally charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Ek is back in Saskatoon court Nov. 9 to enter an election. Hipfner is scheduled to appear in Kindersley court Nov. 14 to enter an election.
Rosetown RCMP, along with officers from the North Battleford and Moose Jaw RCMP Crime Reduction Teams, the Saskatchewan RCMP Emergency Response Team and Combined Traffic Services Section (CTSS), worked together to execute the search warrant on the home. Saskatoon RCMP General Investigation Section and the Saskatchewan RCMP Trafficking Response Team in Saskatoon also assisted.
