Nader Butter to stand trial in Saskatoon on murder charge

Two-day preliminary hearing wrapped up Tuesday in Saskatoon court.

SASKATOON – A 44-year-old man will stand trial in Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench for the murder of 35-year-old Steffen Pohl earlier this year. Pohl was the city’s first homicide victim of 2023.

A two-day preliminary-hearing for Nader Afzal Butter wrapped up Tuesday in Saskatoon Provincial Court and he was committed to stand trial. A trial date hasn’t been set.

Butter was arrested on Jan. 30 at a home in the 1200 block of Idylwyld Drive North where the homicide occurred. Saskatoon police say they were called to the home at approximately 7:20 a.m. for a report of a death. They found Pohl deceased.
