Manitoba RCMP investigation into double homicide leads them to P.A.

Manitoba RCMP recently asked people in Manitoba if they knew of anyone leaving the community right after the murders and hasn鈥檛 returned. They are now in Prince Albert, Sask.

PRINCE ALBERT — Manitoba RCMP’s investigation into more than a decades-old cold case has led them to Prince Albert, Sask.

Manitoba RCMP recently asked people in Manitoba if they had knowledge of anyone leaving the community right after the murders of Brent Denechezhe and Leona Tssessaze and hasn’t returned. Their Major Crime Services investigators are now in Prince Albert to speak to witnesses in the murders of Denechezhe and Tssessaze that occurred on Sept. 9, 2021, in Manitoba.

“Our time in Northlands Denesuline First Nation and the information that has been coming to us after we put out the pleas for help has resulted in us travelling to Prince Albert,” said lead investigator Constable David Giroux in a media release Tuesday.

“We keep following the investigation where it leads. We will not give up on finding answers about the deaths of these two young people who had their whole lives ahead of them.”

On March 20, 2024, RCMP Major Crime Services investigators participated in a smudge 小蓝视频 at the location of the double homicide. After the smudge, investigators began a search at the site, which lasted about two days.

Manitoba RCMP said they also received information that people were sharing a photo on Snapchat of Leona, which was taken just before her death.

“We know this photo exists, but we have not seen it," said Const. Giroux. "We would really like to see that photo and speak to anyone who has any information related to it.”

Police also want to talk to anyone who saw someone leaving Brent’s house between 4:30 - 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 9, 2021 – the day Brent and Leona were killed.
