Man arrested for threats had handgun, machete, hunting knife, baton

SASKATOON – Police found an illegal handgun, hunting knife, and expandable baton in a man’s backpack after arresting him when they followed up on a report that a man pointed a gun at a person.

An investigation by Saskatoon Police Service following a foot pursuit with the armed suspect has resulted in him facing various weapons and firearms-related charges.

On Aug. 17, at about 5:30 a.m., police responded to the call in the 300 block of Shillington Crescent and located the suspect carrying a backpack and a machete fleeing between various businesses.

At one point in the foot chase, officers observed him discard the machete in a garbage bin. The suspect disregarded police commands to stop and fled into the 700 block of Hart Road where he was taken into custody without further incident.

The backpack was located nearby and contained a handgun, a hunting knife and an expandable baton.

A 19-year-old man is charged with four counts of pointing a firearm, three counts of carrying a dangerous weapon, three counts of carrying a Concealed Weapon, uttering a threat to cause death and breach of probation. He made his first appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Aug. 17.
