LA RONGE – A man accused of СÀ¶ÊÓƵ police and assaulting an officer during an arrest appeared in La Ronge Provincial Court Monday.
Jared Ballantyne, 32, of La Ronge, is charged with assault causing bodily harm on a peace officer, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, three counts of resisting arrest, carrying a concealed weapon, and failing to comply with an undertaking.
Ballantyne was arrested after La Ronge RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle speeding on Highway 102. Officers found the vehicle on Cook Crescent in La Ronge and conducted a traffic stop. Police say Ballantyne was the only person in the vehicle and fled on foot.
Police chased Ballantyne and tried to arrest him but he continued to resist arrest. A Conducted Energy Weapon was used and Ballantyne was taken into custody. He didn’t require medical attention. One of the responding officers had minor injuries. Police searched Ballantyne and seized a machete.
Ballantyne is back in La Ronge Provincial court on March 20 for a show cause hearing.
