REGINA — A suspect is now in custody in connection to an incident at F.W. Johnson high school in Regina.
In a video post on Twitter, Regina Deputy Police Chief Lorilee Davies confirmed an arrest had been made. No name has been released.
Davies reported that Regina Police had received a call at 9:15 a.m. Friday about a firearm in the high school. She said their officers immediately responded and a lockdown was immediately enacted, as well as a secure-the-building modes for neighbouring schools.
She said they have no information that any shots were fired and no injuries have been reported to police. Davies said the investigation is continuing and they are working with the school board in order to lift the lockdowns and secure-the-building modes.
According to police, the suspect taken into custody was 13 years old. In a news release, Regina Police reported that over a dozen police officers had arrived at the school on Friday and secured the area. Officers cleared the building, and determined the female suspect was no longer inside. The investigation led police to a residence on the 1300 block of Fleet Street and two youths were arrested there, just before 11:30 a.m. Friday.
Officers also located the firearm believed to have been used in this event, an Airsoft firearm. More information is expected to be provided later on charges.
Earlier on Friday, about a dozen police cars had been spotted in the vicinity of F.W. Johnson High School, located on the east side of Regina.
During the time the high school was placed in lockdown, police asked the public to avoid the area. The following schools had been placed in secure-the-building mode:
- Theresa School,
- Judge Bryant School,
- George Ferguson School,
- Catherine School
- Glen Elm Community School
- Henry Braun School
