NORTH BATTLEFORD – A Little Pine First Nation woman was given jail time Feb. 14 in North Battleford Provincial Court on robbery and breach charges.
Crystal Marie Semaganis, 24, was sentenced to 182 days on a robbery charge, 45 days concurrent for failing to comply with a release order, and 45 days concurrent for failing to comply with a probation order. She was credited with 183 days for time served while on remand.
Charges of pointing a firearm and possession of methamphetamine were withdrawn.
She will be on probation for 12 months and was banned from owning weapons for 10 years. She was also ordered to provide her DNA to the National DNA Data Bank.
Semaganis was arrested after an armed carjacking on Highway 16 near Bresaylor in the R. M. of Paynton east of Lloydminster at about 1:50 a.m. on Aug. 29, 2023.
Maidstone RCMP say that a driver of a vehicle was flagged down by a woman beside a parked vehicle that had its hazard lights on. Once he stopped his vehicle, a man jumped out of the ditch and pointed a firearm at him. The victim was able to escape and call police. There were no injuries.
RCMP Police Dog Services helped search the area for the suspects. Semaganis and Durrell Colten Bearsears, 27, were arrested and charged with robbery, pointing a firearm, and possession of methamphetamine. Bearsears was additionally charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Bearsears remains in custody and is back in North Battleford Provincial Court Feb. 21 and 22.
