SASKATOON – A 28-year-old man arrested Sunday for using a hatchet to damage property on the city’s west end appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court Tuesday morning and was sentenced.
Dylan Moosehunter had a bail hearing scheduled for Dec. 12 but instead pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 85 days in jail.
Around 10 p.m. on Dec. 10, Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) got a call that a man armed with a hatchet was damaging property in the 100 block of Confederation Drive.
A member of the SPS Canine Unit observed a man matching the suspect’s description near 22nd Street West and Confederation Drive. Officers commanded him to stop but he refused and ran away. The police dog was used to help arrest Moosehunter without further incident.
Police say he had a hatchet and knife on him. He was charged with mischief under $5,000, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, and unlawful carrying of a concealed weapon.
