Four arrested following dangerous persons alert still in custody

PRINCE ALBERT – Four men who prompted a dangerous persons alert on Montreal Lake Cree Nation last October are all still in custody and preliminary hearings have now been scheduled to determine if there’s enough evidence for them to stand trial.

A hearing will be held on Oct. 1 in Montreal Lake Circuit Court for Ben Bird, 22, Lloyd Bird, 28, and Deon Smith, 27. A separate hearing for Justice Bird, 29, is set for May 13.

All four, from Montreal Lake Cree Nation, were charged with attempted murder, robbery with a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent, aggravated assault, and two counts of unauthorized possession of firearms.

Waskesui/Montreal Lake RCMP had issued a dangerous persons alert on Oct. 12, 2023, after shots were fired outside a home on Montreal Lake Cree Nation. Police found an injured man when they arrived. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
