Dana Morningchild to stand trial in Cody Tait's murder

The case against Dana Morningchild has been sent from Saskatoon Provincial Court to King’s Bench court. A trial date will be set.

SASKATOON – A 31-year-old Saskatoon man will stand trial for the murder of 22-year-old Cody Tait. On Aug. 15, the case against Dana Morningchild was sent from provincial court to Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench. A trial date will be set. 

Morningchild and three others were charged with second-degree murder in Tait’s death. On March 27, 2022, Rosthern RCMP had responded to a shooting on Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation and found Tait on a road and despite life-saving efforts he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

In March, 21-year-old Allison Ocean Sky Bear pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison. There is a ban on publication of the details until all accused have gone through the court system.

Twenty-nine-year-old Robbie Brent Cameron from Saskatoon, and 21-year-old Scotty Lee Jimmy from North Battleford, have preliminary hearings in Saskatoon Provincial Court Sept. 26. 

The charges against Morningchild, Cameron, and Jimmy haven't been tested in court.
