Charges dropped against two men in shooting on Waterhen Lake

Assault, weapons, and drug trafficking charges were stayed against Miles Lasas and Dylan Lasas.

MEADOW LAKE – Charges were dropped in Meadow Lake Provincial Court against two men accused of assaulting a man on Flotten Lake and discharging a firearm.

The stay of proceedings against 40-year-old Miles Victor Lasas and 32-year-old Dylan Basil Lasas, of Waterhen Lake First Nation, was entered April 20. The Crown doesn’t have to tell the court why a stay is СÀ¶ÊÓƵ entered.

The two were charged with assault with a weapon and discharging a firearm with intent after Meadow Lake RCMP got a call on Aug. 31, 2022, that two armed men assaulted a man in the Flotten Lake area and shots were fired from a firearm. Police didn't specify whether the victim was assaulted with the firearm or shot with the firearm.

The next day, police got a search warrant  and raided a home on Waterhen Lake First Nation where they seized 2.4 kilograms of cocaine, illicit oxycodone, three rifles, a large quantity of ammunition, and stolen property. Miles Lasas was arrested at a home on Waterhen Lake First Nation that day and police released Dylan Lasas’ photo warning the public not to approach him. He was later apprehended.

The drug trafficking charge against Miles Lasas was also stayed.
