MOOSE JAW — A man alleged to have torched a downtown building appeared in provincial court recently and had a bail hearing set to determine whether he can be released until a trial occurs.
Adam Mathieson appeared in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Oct. 24, facing a charge of mischief over $5,000. The Crown opposed his release, so he was remanded back into police custody until a bail hearing occurs on Thursday, Oct. 27. He will appear by video during the hearing.
in relation to a fire that destroyed an abandoned building at 306 River Street West on Oct. 16.
Police and fire crews responded to the blaze around 1:45 a.m. that day, with firefighters taking a defensive approach to the fire and making no effort to save the structure slated for demolition within a month.
The building posed no threat to any structures in the area, while firefighters poured water on the fire, waiting for the building to collapse.
