MCLENNAN, Alta. — A Peace River, Alta., man has been charged with sex crimes against a student and RCMP in that province are advising parents he has also worked in Saskatchewan.
On Feb. 7, Brock Mackenzie Whalen, 31, was charged with:
- sexual assault;
- sexual interference;
- luring a child (x2);
- making sexually explicit material available to a child; and
- child exploitation.
The investigation began in June, 2023, when McLennan RCMP, assisted by Alberta’s Integrated Child Exploitation Unit, both Central and Western Alberta District (WAD) General Investigation Sections (GIS) and WAD Crime Reduction Unit, responded to a report of sexual offences against a youth. McLennan RCMP say the offences took place while the youth was attending a school in the High Prairie School Division.
Whalen was brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. His next court date is set for March 18 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River.
Whalen has been employed by several school districts in Alberta and Saskatchewan, including the High Prairie School Division, Holy Family Catholic Regional Division, Saskatoon Public School Division (2013 and 2015) and the Lloydminster Public School Division (2014). Parents or guardians who are concerned that their child(ren) may have been involved in an incident related to this investigation are encouraged to contact their local police.
Saskatchewan RCMP say investigators have determined the accused did teacher practicum at Greystone Heights School and École College Park School in Saskatoon.
