MEADOW LAKE – A man charged in the death of 34-year-old Nathan Piche has been sentenced to 1,096 days in custody.
Clayton Fontaine, who also goes by the name of Clayton John Herman, has 529 days left to serve as of March 14. He was given 567 days credit for time served in remand. This means he will serve his time in a provincial jail instead of a federal prison.
Fontaine, 29, from La Loche, was arrested in March 2023 and charged with criminal negligence causing death and two counts of assault of a police officer with a weapon.
Erica Joan Herman, from Janvier, Alta., was also charged with criminal negligence causing death. She was arrested in Alberta and brought back to Saskatchewan to face the charge. The charge was stayed.
Once Fontaine is released, he will be placed on 12 months of probation.
On Feb. 14, 2023, Piche was reported missing to La Loche RCMP. He was last seen on Feb. 12, 2023, in the Garson Lake area.
On Feb. 17, 2023, Piche’s body was found about one kilometre where he was last seen.
