SASKATOON – A woman accused of deliberately setting fire to an apartment building on Kingsmere Boulevard was back in Saskatoon Provincial Court.

Janis Kittiekaywinnie had an appearance on Feb. 1 and her matter was adjourned to March 2 for election. She is charged with arson with disregard for human life.

Saskatoon police say that at about 5 a.m. on Dec. 4, 2022, they responded to a multi-unit residential structure fire. Saskatoon firefighters were on scene and were able to put out the fire without incident.

The hallway was deliberately set on fire and trapped a man inside a bedroom, said an investigator from the Saskatoon Fire Department. The man was able to escape through the bedroom window.
