Before Thursday, the most new COVID-19 cases northern Manitoba had seen in one day was 26. That mark was more than doubled Thursday - 60 new cases were reported in the region.
The province reported 427 new cases of COVID-19 as of 9:30 a.m. Nov. 5, with 265 in the Winnipeg region.
Out of the northern cases, most are tied to existing outbreaks in the The Pas/OCN/Kelsey and Cross Lake/Pimicikamak health districts. There are 94 people currently ill with COVID-19 in The Pas district and 54 people with active cases of the disease in the Cross Lake district. Together, these two communities make up two-thirds of all active cases in the north. As of Nov. 5, there are 224 active cases of COVID-19 in northern Manitoba.
The remaining cases are spread out among 11 different health districts and the infamous "unknown district" designation - as of Thursday, 32 active cases were listed as "unknown district" cases. In the Thompson/Mystery Lake district, 18 people are still currently sick with COVID-19.
Elsewhere in the region, no other district has more than six active cases. Only one other district, the Island Lake district, has more than four active cases. A full graph showing how many active cases are in each northern Manitoba health district can be found at the bottom of this article.
Only one case remains active in the Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry Portage/Sherridon health district. That one case is located in the Snow Lake region and no evidence has been brought forward to show further transmission in the community.
No new possible exposure events have been listed for northern Manitoba communities. The Keeyask generating station, where at least 20 people have tested positive for COVID-19, is still under a "red" designation under the provincial pandemic response system, indicating community spread and restrictions for the area.
The outbreak at the Thompson YWCA facility is now considered over by provincial health officials. The facility was previously listed as "red" due to an influx of cases linked to part of the facility's third floor.
