Manitoba reports COVID-19 death of elder from The Pas district, 32 new cases in north

Northern Manitoba passed another unfortunate milestone on lockdown eve - the region's second death from COVID-19.

The province reported the death Nov. 11, saying the victim was a female in her 60s. According to the provincial COVID-19 dashboard, the victim was from the The Pas/OCN/Kelsey health district. The new death was one of nine new deaths announce throughout Manitoba and one of three outside Winnipeg.

One death was reported in the 小蓝视频ern Health-Sante Sud region, a man in his 70s, while the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority saw another death in a woman in her 70s. Remaining deaths were reported in a man in his 60s, three men in their 70s and a man and woman each in their 80s in Winnipeg, with four of the deaths tied to existing health facility outbreaks

Another 431 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Manitoba Wednesday, bringing the province up to 5,676 active cases of the disease. Throughout Manitoba, 218 people are in hospital with COVID-19, with 32 of those people in intensive care. In the past five days, 10.7 per cent of all COVID-19 tests in Manitoba have turned up positive.聽

Out of the 431 cases, 32 cases were found within the Northern Health Region (NHR). The Pas/OCN/Kelsey continues to lead the region in cases, with 151 people currently sick within the community. The Cross Lake/Pimicikamak district now has 69 active cases, while the Misipawistik/Moose Lake/Mosakahiken/Easterville/Chemawawin district now has the third highest number of cases, with 18 people sick.

Thompson/Mystery Lake now has a dozen cases, while Island Lake has 11 active cases. Ten other cases are listed by the province as "unknown district" cases.

In the Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry Portage/Sherridon district, two people remain ill with COVID-19. Four other people within the district have had COVID-19 in the past and have since recovered.

No new outbreaks or public exposures to COVID-19 have been reported in northern Manitoba.

Saskatchewan is beginning to see their own numbers spike, including in the north. Saskatchewan reported 239 cases in the past two days, including 112 new cases Wednesday. Eight of the cases found Nov. 11 are in the far north east zone, confined to a portion of the zone that does not include communities near Flin Flon, including Creighton, Denare Beach, Pelican Narrows and Sandy Bay. Four cases of COVID-19 are active in the far north east 2 zone, which includes Saskatchewan communities near Flin Flon.

No new cases were found in Saskatchewan among people who were tested for COVID-19 out of province.
