Take all the people in Flin Flon and Creighton and combine them. That number of people is now smaller than the number of active COVID-19 cases in Manitoba.
Northern Manitoba saw 40 new cases of COVID-19 Nov. 18.
The Pas/OCN/Kelsey district continues to see the brunt of northern COVID-19 cases, with 169 people now having active cases. Since the community outbreak began in The Pas/OCN/Kelsey, 266 people in the district have tested positive for COVID-19.听
Active cases are also climbing in the听Grand Rapids/Misipawistik/Moose Lake/Mosakahiken/Easterville/Chemawawin district, where 48 people currently have COVID-19. Cases have been centered around the Mosakahiken Cree Nation area, where band officials have set up a series of checkpoints for people coming in and leaving the community. Scheduled shopping days, food deliveries, social distancing and mask use are all in effect at Mosakahiken to help fight COVID-19 spread.
Cases continue to be reported at Cross Lake, which now has 66 active cases. Cases in the Cross Lake area have hovered around the mid-to-late 60s in recent weeks, but the number of overall cases has increased - while the number of active cases has been constant, recoveries are beginning to increase, meaning new active cases have been reported to offset recovered cases. Cross Lake First Nation is still considered an active outbreak site by the provincial government, with special restrictions in effect for the area.
The Island Lake district in remote northeastern Manitoba also has 29 active cases of COVID-19, while 11 active cases are listed as "unknown district." The Thompson/Mystery Lake district is seeing a small increase in active cases, with 20 active cases.
All other northern Manitoba districts have seven cases or fewer, including the Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry Portage/Sherridon district, which has two active cases.听
