YORKTON - Saturday the Yorkton Terriers were in Weyburn for a Viterra Division tilt.
It appeared something of a David and Goliath affair with the Terriers atop the Viterra with 12 points and Weyburn at the bottom of the division.
And the old tale proved true in this one, the Red Wings winning in the end.
Jason Ruthven started the scoring giving the host wings a 1-0 lead at 8:40 on the contest.
Thirteen seconds later Dustin Renas knotted things 1-1, a score which held into the middle stanza.
A powerplay effort by Keenan Ingram at 1:37 gave the Terriers a brief lead.
Only 1:03 later Ruthven was back with his second of the game to again tie things.
Ethan Dekay moved the Wings up one at 14:54, but a goal by Bryce Dahl at 16:41 again saw the teams deadlocked – this time 3-3.
The home side would head to the third up a goal though as Ruthven completed his hat trick effort at 18:38.
In the third Dekay scored at 10:48, his second of the game to give the Wings a 5-3 lead.
The Terriers cut that lead in half on a Typer Palin goal at 17:10.
But then an empty net goal by Dekay to complete his hat trick sealed a 6-4 win.
Ethan Farrow took the loss in the Terrier net facing 29 shots, while Angelo Zol faced 49 in the Wing win.
With the loss the Terriers slip to second in the division leap-frogged by Melville that via a win have 13 points to Yorkton’s 12.
Weyburn and Estevan sits tied with eight points.
Yorkton is back in action Wednesday, Oct. 16, heading south to face Estevan. The Terriers host Melville Friday, with the teams meeting again in the Millionaires’ barn Saturday.
