Terriers lose out in hard-fought matches

The Terriers will host the Melfort Mustangs Dec. 9 at Westland Arena for their annual Teddy Bear Toss and Fan Appreciation Night.

YORKTON – The Yorkton Terriers played three games from Nov. 28 to Dec. 2, facing off against the Nipawin Hawks, Flin Flon Bombers and La Ronge Ice Wolves.

The Terriers hosted the Hawks Nov. 28 at Westland Arena, losing the match 6–3.

The Hawks started strong with Finley Radloff scoring the first goal at 13:03 of the first period, assisted by Evan Forrest and Artem Hrabovetskyi. Not long after, at 15:43, Hrabovetskyi added another goal to the Hawks’ tally, with assists from Ronan Buckberger and Luke Chase.

The Terriers didn’t let this early setback deter them. Anthony Domina managed to score unassisted at 5:43 of the first period.

The second period saw the Hawks extend their lead with Radloff scoring his second goal of the game at 7:59, assisted by Buckberger.

The third period was a flurry of activity. Anthony McIntosh of the Terriers scored at 7:58 on a power play, assisted by Domina. The Hawks retaliated with Jacob Michelson scoring at 10:14, assisted by Hudson Cameron and Landon Pappas. Radloff then scored his third goal of the game at 16:09, assisted by Evan Forrest.

The Terriers weren’t done yet. McIntosh scored his second goal of the game at 17:04 on another power play, assisted by Tylan Henrikson and Domina. However, the Hawks had the last laugh with Buckberger scoring on an empty net at 18:55, assisted by Braeden Jockims and Eric Hoiness, resulting in the 6–3 loss for the team.

Adam Kelly was in net for the Terriers, facing 24 shots and saving 19. On the other side, Damon Cunningham was in net for the Hawks, blocking 23 shots.

The Terriers had a few days to re-adjust before heading to Flin Flon to take on the the SJHL's top team in the Bombers Dec. 1.

The game kicked off with Bomber Carter Anderson scoring at 6:55 of the first period on a power play effort, assisted by Noah Houle and Just Lies. The Terriers quickly responded with Jye Zawatsky scoring at 10:12, assisted by Dalton Mayes and Cade Kennedy. The Terriers took the lead when Clay Sleeva scored at 13:21, assisted by Dylan Ruptash and Harrison Aldridge. However, the Bombers equalized with Carter Anderson scoring unassisted at 18:00 of the first period.

The second period saw the Bombers take control. Justin Lies scored at 0:12, assisted by Ashton Paul and Carter Anderson. Anthony Piccininno then scored short-handed at 5:21, assisted by Adam McNutt and Kenneth Marquart. The Terriers managed to pull one back when Jaron Desnoyers scored at 18:25, assisted by Anthony Domina and Jeff Hammond.

The third period was a goal fest. Carter Anderson scored on the power play at 3:16, assisted by Jacob Vockler and Houle. Anthony Piccininno then scored at 3:48, assisted by Reid Arberry and Cole Tanchuk. Alexi Sylvestre added another for the Bombers at 6:37, assisted by Vockler. The Terriers responded with Clay Sleeva scoring at 6:53, assisted by Dylan Ruptash. However, Carter Anderson sealed the game for the Bombers at 8:36, assisted by Sylvestre and Lies, for the 8–4 loss.

Blaker Sittler was Terrier netminder for the first and second period but was pulled at 6:37 of the third and replaced with Adam Kelly. Sittler faced 34 shots and saved 27. Kelly faced 11 shots and saved 10. 

Kenneth Marquart was in net for the win, facing 32 shots and saving 28.

From Flin Flon the Terriers travelled to La Ronge to take on the Ice Wolves.

The Ice Wolves came out on top with a 6-4 victory, despite a late surge from the Terriers.

The Ice Wolves started strong with Ty McKay scoring the first goal at 7:23 of the first period, assisted by Brynn Maclean and Dylan Handel. Ryan Silzer followed up with a power play goal at 11:21, with assists from Raine Hodge and Handel.

The second period saw the Ice Wolves extend their lead. Jacob Hufty scored a short-handed goal at 8:23, followed by a power play goal from Mason Bueckert at 14:16, assisted by William Forsberg and Ethan Andrews. Ty McKay added another goal to his tally at 15:57, with assists from Handel and Raine Hodge.

The Terriers fought back in the third period. Jeff Hammond scored on the power play at 0:41, assisted by Jaron Desnoyers and Anthony McIntosh. Cooper Algajer added an unassisted goal at 7:33, and Shaden Duliak scored at 8:32, assisted by Colton Koran.

However, the Ice Wolves responded with Ty McKay scoring his third goal of the match at 14:36, assisted by Raine Hodge and Brynn Maclean. Despite a late goal from Shaden Duliak at 15:02, assisted by Koran, the Terriers couldn’t close the gap, resulting in the 6-4 loss.

Ethan Farrow was in net for the Terriers for the first and better part of the second period, but was replaced with Adam Kelly at 15:57 of the second. Farrow saw 21 shots and blocked 16, while Kelly saw 11 shots and blocked 10.

Topher Chirico was in net for the Ice Wolves, blocking 52 of the 56 Terrier attempts, securing the win for his team.

The Terriers are set to host the Melfort Mustangs at Westland Arena Dec. 9 for their annual Teddy Bear Toss charity game.
