Terriers drop two

Team will look to turn things around in road games against Bruins and Red Wings.

YORKTON – The Terriers faced off against the Humboldt Broncos and Melfort Mustangs in last week's matches.

The Terriers visited the Broncos on Dec. 5 losing out with a final score of 7-4.

The Broncos got off to a strong start with Spencer Bell scoring a short-handed goal at 3:50, assisted by Dylan Nazareth. However, the Terriers quickly responded with Anthony Domino scoring on a power play at 5:25, assisted by Jeff Hammond.

The Broncos then took control of the game with Maddox Amaral scoring at 14:33, assisted by Saxen Robertson and Cage Newans. Connor Miller added another goal for the Broncos on the power play at 18:38, assisted by Tristan Serrao.

The second period started with Bell scoring his second goal of the game at 3:27 on a power play, assisted by Cage Newans and Daylan Weigel. The Terriers fought back with Dylan Ruptash scoring at 5:51 on a power play effort, assisted by Quintin Unreiner and Dalton Mayes. The Terriers continued their comeback with Jeff Hammond scoring at 13:28, assisted by Jaron Desnoyers. Anthony McIntosh then scored at 16:20 on the power play, assisted by Tyson Perkins and Anthony Domina, bringing the Terriers back into the game.

The third period saw the Broncos regain control. Connor Miller scored at 1:13 on a power play, assisted by Newans and Weigel. Jeter Korte added another goal for the Broncos at 9:06. Newans then scored on a power play at 12:12, sealing the victory for the Broncos.

Ethan Farrow was in net for the Terriers, facing 43 shots and saving 36. 

Aidan Fischer was in net for the Broncos, facing 41 shots and saving 37.

In their second of last week's games, the Terriers hosted the Melfort Mustangs Dec. 9 at Westland Arena for their annual Teddy Bear Toss and Fan Appreciation Night. 

The night was filled with excitement but the Terriers struggled to find the net in the first period. The Mustangs took an early lead with Chase Friedt-Mohr scoring at 12:59, assisted by Kaleb Binner and Nolan Patterson. The Mustangs continued their offensive onslaught with Nolan Henderson scoring on a power play effort at 18:59, assisted by Hayden Prosofsky and Ty Thornton.

The second period saw the Mustangs extend their lead with Hudson Norris scoring at 5:41, assisted by Bo Eisner. However, the Terriers found their footing with Brett Butz scoring at 9:59 on the power play, assisted by Clay Sleeva and Dalton Mayes. 

The third period started with a bang as Mustang Logan Belton scored at 0:56 on a power play, assisted by Chase Friedt-Mohr and Leith Olafson. Not to be outdone, Terrier Jaron Desnoyers scored unassisted on a power play effort at 1:44. The Terriers continued their comeback with Anthony Domina scoring at 14:56, assisted by Jaron Desnoyers and Quintin Unreiner. Though a valiant effort, it wasn't enough for the Terriers, resulting in the 4–3 loss for the home town team.

In net for the Mustangs was James Venne, who faced 24 shots and saved 21. 

On the other end, Ethan Farrow was in net for the Terriers, facing 32 shots and saving 28.

With 28 game played at the time of writing, the Terriers hold a record of 8-18-1-1, placing them second from last overall.

The Terriers will look to turn things around when they visit the Estevan Bruins Dec. 13 and the Weyburn Red Wings Dec. 16 for some more SJHL action.
