Suncrest College held their annual open house April 10.

YORKTON — Suncrest College opened its doors to prospective students on April 10 for its annual open house, offering a firsthand look at its facilities, programs and scholarship opportunities.

Jenna Niebergall, Manager of Marketing and Public Relations at Suncrest College, emphasized the event’s importance in connecting students with instructors and advisors.

"We're having our annual open house. It's a great opportunity for students to come and tour the buildings, take a look at the shop and talk to instructors that they might have in the future," said Niebergall in an interview with СÀ¶ÊÓƵ

"All of our advisors and program coordinators are here as well so they can find out about all of the programs," added Niebergall.

One of the major draws of the open house was the waived application fee, allowing students to apply for free and get assistance with their applications.

"Students can apply for free today. We're waiving that application fee. They can also get assistance with helping any application questions that they have. They can find out about student loans, scholarships, any admission requirements that they might not know about," said Niebergall.

The event featured interactive displays in the science lab, demonstrations in the welding shop, and tours of the heavy equipment truck and transport areas, as well as the power engineering lab.

Suncrest College has been steadily expanding its program offerings, with new additions and growing enrolment numbers.

"Coming up in the fall will be our second year of the stenography program," said Niebergall, adding, "that will be exciting to add more students to that new program and have a little bit more recruitment time."

Neibergall said new programs are always in the works.

"Always looking to expand more programming," added Niebergall.

Niebergall said attendance at the open house was strong, with dozens of visitors taking advantage of the opportunity.

"It's been pretty busy. We've probably had over 40 people. I think we've had over 10 applications so far," said Niebergall, "it's nice to see because that does make a difference."

Enrolment figures have been promising, particularly in skills training and trades programs.

"I think we've certainly seen an increase in our skills training programs for sure. Especially some of our trades programs are definitely seeing the growth there," said Niebergall, "that's been great to see those programs filling up."

Suncrest College is also actively promoting its scholarship opportunities, including a newly introduced guaranteed entrance scholarship.

"We're promoting our new scholarship program right now. It ends April 30th, so we're trying to push students to apply for scholarships," said Niebergall.

"We're also—for the first time ever—having a guaranteed entrance scholarship so if a student has an average from high school of 90 or above they are guaranteed a $3,000 scholarship if they come here in the fall," added Niebergall.

"It's something we're definitely pushing this year."
