YORKTON – The Yorkton Benefit Hockey Game was held at Westland Arena April 10.
The annual hockey game put students against teachers for a night of friendly competition and community support.
The charity match, featuring players from both the Good Spirit School Division and Christ the Teacher Catholic Schools, raised funds for eight-year-old Halle Thompson, who was born with a rare bowel disorder resulting in intestinal failure.
Thompson relies on intravenous nutrition for 12 hours each night and has undergone 21 abdominal surgeries, among other medical procedures. She frequently travels to Calgary, Saskatoon and Toronto for ongoing treatment and will eventually require a multi-organ transplant.
Money was raised for the beneficiaries in two ways. The first by having students sell tickets for the hockey game. The high school students who sold the most tickets made up the players on the student team, with the opposing team СÀ¶ÊÓƵ teachers and employees from the two school divisions. Elementary students who sold the most tickets within their own school had an opportunity to compete for a PS5 Gaming Package during the game's intermission.
The second way that money is raised is through donations from businesses and individuals purchasing 50/50 and raffle tickets on the night of the game.
Organizers expressed gratitude to all who supported the event, emphasizing the significance of the annual game in assisting local families in need.
