YORKTON – The Laurier Avenue Connector Pathway on Logan Green has been paved with solar lights to follow later this year, according to a Facebook post from Yorkton Parks and Recreation.

The project was funded under the COVID-19 Resilience Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

The COVID-19 Resilience stream was created to provide provinces and territories with added flexibility to fund quick-start, short-term projects that might not otherwise be eligible under the existing funding streams, read an article on the subject from Infrastructure.gc.ca.

The existing gravel pathway was retrofitted and upgraded from gravel to asphalt, as hard surface pathways support different modes of human powered wheeled transportation options such as roller blades, wheelchairs, skateboards and strollers.

In addition, the project will see the installation of solar lights every 35 metres along the pathway to ensure public safety and comfort, particularly during the winter months when daylight hours are much shorter.
