YORKTON - The Yorkton Maulers took back-to-back losses when they visited the Moose Jaw Winmar Warriors over the weekend of Jan. 13-14.
The Maulers looked good in the first period of game one of the series, with Shaden Duliak putting one past the Warriors' netminder within the first two minutes of the match, assisted by Kieren Osberg and Ryder Woods. Teammate Alex Morrison followed up with another midway through the first period, assisted by Lucas Hvidston and Boston Schmidt, giving the team a 2-0 lead to start the second period.
However, the second period saw the Warriors score four unanswered goals coming by way of Dylan Duzan on a power play, Carson Deichert, Caleb Potter and Jake Briltz, setting the Maulers at a two point deficit to start the third period.
The lone goal of the third period came by way of Mauler Ryder Woods within the first two minutes of play and though Mauler goalie Wyatt Bouvier was pulled for the remaining minutes of the match, it wasn't enough to knot the score for the Maulers resulting in the 4-3 win for the Warriors.
Bouvier saved 29 of the 33 shots he faced.
Luke McKechnie was in net for the win, saving 21 shots.
The second match of the series was a blowout victory for the Warriors, with the Maulers on the receiving end of 10 unanswered goals.
Bouvier blocked 13 of the 20 shots for his 40 minutes spent as netminder.
Owen Sinclair saved 11 of the 14 for his 20 minute stint.
Ryan Bain was in net for the win, blocking all 15 shots on goal.
The Maulers are scheduled to host the Estevan Great North Bears Jan. 17 at Westland Arena, and will visit Regina to Jan. 20 to take on the Pat Canadians.
