YORKTON – The Yorkton Maulers hosted the the Warman Wildcats in back-to-back matches Jan. 27 and 28.
Both teams went scoreless for the better part of the first and second period in the Jan. 27 matchup until Mauler Kierin Osberg put one past the Wildcats' goalie with just over a minute remaining in the second period.
Wildcat Liam Bursaw put his team on the board midway through the third period, but Mauler Ryder Woods would answer the call two minutes later. Wildcat Cameron Jacobson knotted the score a minute later, forcing an over time which saw no team score and into a subsequent shootout.
It was once again Osberg to score for the Maulers, resulting in the shootout win for the home team.
Wyatt Bouvier was in net for the win, taking on 38 shots and saving 36.
Corben Schnurr was in net for the Wildcats, facing 22 shots and saving 20.
Maulers went scoreless in the first period of their second match against the Wildcats, but allowed three past the goalie in the first 20 minutes of play.
The second period saw the Wildcats score again, putting them four points ahead of the Maulers.
Osberg put one on the board for the Maulers in the opening minute of play in the third period, but was answered a couple of minutes later by the Wildcats. With six minutes remaining in the period, Osberg put another past the Wildcats' goalie, but the visitors would be successful on a power play effort and close out the match resulting in the 6–2 loss for the Maulers.
Bouvier was in net for the Maulers, saving 33 of the 39 shots on goal.
Riley Deck was in net for the win, blocking 28 of the 30 shots against.
In upcoming matches, the Maulers are scheduled to visit the Prince Albert Mintos Feb. 2 and Regina Pat Canadians Feb. 8.
