YORKTON - Kidsport in Yorkton will be able to continue helping youth get involved in organized sport thanks to a donation of $3,100 from Yorkton Hyundai.

The money will “help kids get off the sidelines,” said Doug Jonassen, chair of Yorkton Kidsport.

Jonassen said in 2023 the local program paid out some $25,000 to help 69 youth – the program is for those up to age 18 – pay their fees to participate in a range of sport activities. The sports include taekwondo, soccer, gymnastics, hockey and others.

“It’s every sport you can think of,” said Jonassen.

Jonassen said anyone can apply to the program for funds to help defray the cost of registration with up to $500 per youth available if the application is accepted.

The donation Thursday from Hyundai was based on $100 per vehicle sold – and was the third year of the program.

“It’s in support of the community,” said Hyundai Yorkton’s Ron Kaban, who added this donation is a little more special because “it’s helping kids.”

Kaban said he particularly likes that the Kidsport program is focused on helping local and area youth, something he deems important to support.
