YORKTON – The Godfrey Art Gallery is auctioning off some of its aged donated works.
The silent auction exhibition dubbed, "Unvaulted," contains works dating back to the 1960s through to the 2000s.
"Many decades ago — starting back to the 1960s — there was a collection of artwork that was donated to the Yorkton Arts Council before the Godfrey Dean even existed," said Kelly Litzenberger, Gallery Manager, in an interview with Yorkton This Week.
"Once the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery was formed the collection was split between the two organizations," said Litzenberger, noting, the Yorkton Arts Council owns some of the artwork that can be found in their office as well as the Yorkton Public Library and City Hall.
"Our collection was stored in our vault and so we've taken all the art works out of our vault ... and we're going to be selling them off," said Litzenberger.
Notable artists appearing in the exhibition include Michael Lonechild, Mary Spice Kerr, Dean Bouche, Madison Blackstone and Sarah Jane Fougere formally of Canora.
"We have a lot of local artists. A lot of artists that have passed away," said Litzenberger, "it's a really eclectic collection from acrylic and oils to pencil drawings."
"There is no reserve on a majority of the pieces so whatever you can afford — whatever you feel the value is — is what we'll accept," said Litzenberger.
The closing date to bid on the artworks is March 2nd.
"This is just a great way to start an art collection," said Litzenberger, "there's some artists of notable recognition but there are some well developed artworks from people from the community and area."
"There's definitely art works that portray the provincial landscape and Yorkton landscape and history as well."
