Crafting cozy cottages with Graham crackers at the YPL

Upcoming events at the YPL include a Family Game Day, Dec. 28.

YORKTON – The Yorkton Public Library (YPL) hosted its annual Graham Cracker Gingerbread House making event the afternoon of the 16th.

Coralee Danyluk, Children’s Programmer at YPL explained the choice of using graham crackers instead of traditional gingerbread.

“Because it’s so much easier to build than the actual heavy structure with the actual gingerbread. This keeps together so much easier.”

The event was open to all ages, with the stipulation that younger participants have parental assistance.

“As long as they have a parent that can help them out because it’s a bit tough for the little ones,” said Danyluk.

The popularity of the event has grown over the years.

“I could probably do it two days in a row and fill up both days," said Danyluk.

The activity not only offers a fun and creative way for families to bond but also provides an edible and festive decoration for the holiday season.

“They can eat them if they want or have them out for Christmas – it’s always a popular one,” she added.

Looking ahead, the YPL has more in store for the community. In the interval between Christmas Day and New Year's Day, the library will host a Family Game Day on the 28th.
