YORKTON - Attention Yorkton modellers, a new club is launching in October and it will focus on the modelling hobby.

Will Woods has been building scale models – mostly war-era airplanes of late – and as a result joined the Regina Scale Models group.

“I’ve been to two meetings in two years. It just never seemed to work out,” he lamented, noting the drive for Friday evening meetings was never particularly convenient.

A better solution Woods determined would be to start a group locally.

Woods went looking for a space for a group to meet and found a home at Skies the Limit Toys in the city. With a locale available Woods said now he just hopes people interested in the hobby join in.

“There's some really neat stuff that people have done,” said Woods, adding the hobby today is a diverse one, no longer largely focused on aircraft and war-era machinery. “. . . There are so many things that are available (now as models).”

In terms of just what the club will focus on, Woods said he sees that evolving after a few meetings, but lending each other a helping hand will be part of it.

“You can learn some things from others,” he said.

Meetings will be rather free form, allowing members to bring a work in-progress to continue crafting, or to bring a finished project to display and talk about.

“The main concept will be just to have fun,” he said.

The first meeting is set for Oct. 2, from 7-9 p.m. and will be held each first Wednesday of the month except for July and August.

Those interested can head to Facebook and private message Skies the Limit Toys.
