Olive Thompson, resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2014. She was 94 years of age. Olive 'Tommy' Lillian Thompson was born on January 6, 1920 at Saltcoats, SK; a daughter of Eleanor (nee Russell) and Carl Torgerson. She was raised in Saltcoats and received her education there. As most children growing up in the 1930's, and 小蓝视频 the second oldest in a family of thirteen, Olive soon found herself working at home, caring for siblings. On November 4, 1939 she was united in marriage to Ernie Thompson at Bredenbury. The couple resided in Bredenbury, Ernest was employed with CP Rail and Olive tended to the home. Olive will be remembered for her love of community, she assisted in any way she could with the many community functions and events that Bredenbury held. She was an avid curler, and was a regular watcher of curling events on TV. Olive made a name for herself for her pie making. Her pies were much sought after as prizes at local bingo's held in town. She also took great pride in her family and was very proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. When Ernest retired the couple travelled extensively in Canada and the United States. They also enjoyed a few winters in Arizona. In 1986, Ernest Passed away. Following that time Olive moved to Burgis Beach and had resided there until needing more constant care. She became a resident of the Sturgis Nursing Home, then the Canora Nursing Home, and finally the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, where she had since resided. Besides her husband Ernest, Olive was predeceased by her parents; sisters Joyce Neild, Mabel Munro, Myrtle Lalluck, Shirley Otto, Hilda Christie, and Glenda Zilkowski; and by brothers Art, Russell & Bart Torgerson. She leaves to cherish her memory her three sons: Jack (Leora) of Burgis Beach; Gordon (Margaret) of Regina, and Len (Geraldine) of Bredenbury. Grandchildren: John (Noelle), Bruce (Kim), Lynda (Tim), and Sharon (Kevin); great grandchildren: Jordan; Matthew & Kaylee; Jayson (Amanda), Nicole (John) & Nathan (Megan); Brett & Brad. Also great great grandchildren: Kiana & Mason; Evian, Stayden & Bay. Sisters: Sheila Farrell & Gwen Olson, and by a brother, Wren (Brenda) Torgerson. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held on Thursday, June 12, 2014 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre, Yorkton with Crystal Bailey B.Th officiating. Organist, Amanda Buhler led the congregation in the singing of the hymns "How Great Thou Art", "Amazing Grace", and "The Old Rugged Cross". The eulogists were grandchildren Sharon Heskin and John Thompson. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Matthew with Tim, Jayson & Nathan Hollingshead, Bruce, John and Matthew Thomspon, and Kevin Heskin serving as the casketbearers.
