Gertrude Wanda Roming, "Gertie" as she was know to friends and family, was born on October 4, 1924, the daughter of Matilda and Rudolph Schraeder. Gertie grew up in Yorkton, along with her three sisters, Agnes, Bertha and Alice and her two brothers, Allan and Elmer. In 1945, she married Alfred Roming and they were blessed with two children, Lorne and Linda. Gertie worked outside the home until their first child was born, at which time she began her new full time job, raising her children. She worked hard, always planting a very large garden, canning vegetables and making preserves for her family to enjoy. Gertie enjoyed sewing, reading books, was an excellent cook and had marvelous talent when baking, skills which she passed down to her daughter, Linda. Gertie's hobbies included watching and listening to the birds, whose return she anxiously awaited each spring, who took up residence in their backyard birdhouses. In the winter, she enjoyed watching hockey and curling on TV. Once she had grandchildren, she loved spending time babysitting and spent as much time with them as she could, playing games and doing a wide range of other activities with them. In her younger years, Gertie served in many church activities. Reading her bible and praying was a big part of her life, as she was strong in her faith and was a witness to others. She was a loving and kind person, always giving and helping others who were in need. Gertie passed away at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre the evening of May 31, 2014 at 89 years of age. She is survived by her son, Lorne (Carolyn) Roming; her daughter, Linda (Walter) Riabko; her sister, Agnes Fenske of Cochrane, AB; her two brothers, Elmer (Hazel) Schraeder of Calgary, AB and Allan (Marion) Schraeder of Edmonton, AB as well as her grandchildren, Jason Riabko, Shawn (Tanya) Riabko and great-grandson, Hunter Riabko and numerous nieces and nephews.
