She was 106 ½ years old! Freda Margueritha was born during a snow storm on November 7, 1907 at the Walter family homestead, approximately 15 miles east north-east of Yorkton. She was the youngest of four born to German immigrants Ida (nee Yurke) and Paul Walter and spent her whole life in the Yorkton area before moving into Yorkton in the late 1970's. As a young woman, Freda attended Teachers College in Saskatoon, and after graduating, taught for a total of 24 years over a span of 40 years, at a number of rural schools in the Yorkton area. On June 30, 1930, she married Pete Morrison of Barvas, SK, and together they raised a family of three boys and farmed until Pete passed away on December 21, 1974. In addition to teaching and farming, Freda was active in the Barvas and Dunleath Presbyterian churches, and later in Knox Presbyterian Church in Yorkton. Freda loved gardening, singing and playing cards. Cribbage was her favourite; she would play for hours, counting quickly and winning many quarters. She was a beautiful knitter and quilter and in her later years took up ceramics, sketching, painting and crocheting, winning many awards for her artistic endeavours. Freda was predeceased by her parents: Paul and Ida Walter and her step-mother, Mary; her husband, Pete and their son, Albert; her brothers, Eric and Albert Walter; her sisters, Bertha and Agnes, and her step-sister, Ruth; her sister-in-law, Tina Walter and her brothers-in-law, Dan MacKay and Mac MacDonald. Freda, known as "the kissing aunt", was blessed with numerous nieces, nephews and friends, many of whom were students she taught. She loved us all and we were blessed in knowing her. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 from Knox Presbyterian Church in Yorkton, Saskatchewan with Reverend Devon Pattemore officiating.
