Patrick Joseph Mallaghan, 84, of Shawnigan Lake, B.C. passed away peacefully at home, Thursday, May 22 at 9am. Patrick was born to the late Peter and Elva Mallaghan of Regina, SK on September 14, 1929. He was also predeceased by his sister, Mary, and infant brothers Peter and Daniel. Patrick took accounting training for a position in the provincial budget bureau. Patrick and his family later moved to Paddockwood, SK in 1968, where he worked as a town administrator. Four years later he transferred to Big River in the same capacity. After six years he took the position of Labour Standards Officer in Yorkton, SK., where he worked until his retirement in 1983. He and Louise retired at Shawnigan Lake, BC which is where he lived until his passing. Patrick was known for his strong faith, mechanical and building skills, ( built a cabin) and artistic talent (was a prolific painter). He also enjoyed photography and had an avid love of flying. Over the years many friends and family enjoyed excursions in his Cessna airplane. Patrick's greatest love was his wife of 58 years, Louise and his seven children: Patricia Couweleers( Will), Julie Rudrick; Michelle Dreher(Tim); Gwen Green(Michael); Dan Mallaghan,(Diane); Eileen Caudle (Jim); Genevieve Wilson (Dave). He is also survived by his sister Anne Plante (Larry), as well as 22 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Patrick was an active member of his parish community and the Knights of Columbus. He loved to go exploring with Louise around Vancouver Island , Mexico, and visit with his adult children and grandchildren. He had a long and fulfilling life with work, family, friends, hobbies, traveling and exploring. After a long illness, he is resting in peace in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. The family gratefully requests masses said in lieu of flowers. Prayers will be held on Friday, May 30, at 7:30 pm, at St.Francis Xavier Church in Mill Bay. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St.Francis Xavier Church on Saturday, May 31 at 12 noon, with internment taking place in the church cemetery. Reception to follow the funeral Mass.
