Nick Andrusiek

Nick Andrusiek passed away on Friday, December 18, 2015 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of 84 years. Nick was born on December 13, 1931 to Peter and Mary Andrusiek on the family farm north of Preeceville. Nick attended the Brook View School and was one of few who could not complain about walking miles to school as it was just across the road, but not to be left out of the trials of the 1930's and 1940's he was given the task to be up early to start a fire in the school's wood stove so the school would be warm when the teacher and children arrived. Nick worked on the family farm helping his parents throughout his young years and at age 21 he met Lena Yarycky and the following year Nick and Lena "Minnie" were united in Matrimony on June 28, 1954. It was at this time that Nick and Minnie took over the operations of the family farm. Farming, raising cattle, gardens and the rest of the daily chores kept them very busy throughout the summer months and in the winter Nick would work for logging companies. Nick and Minnie were blessed with two children, Lionel and Marilyn. In October of 1965, Nick and Minnie moved the family to Hudson Bay where Nick was employed with the Simpson Timber Company as a Millwright until the company ceased operations and Nick retired at the age of 59. In October of 1997, Nick and Minnie moved from Hudson Bay to Yorkton yet still continued to tend to their farmyard and gardens. Nick enjoyed tinkering in his workshop and fixing things people brought him. He enjoyed tending to his fruit trees, gardens, helping Minnie in the kitchen, politics, new technology, meeting friends for coffee, reading about local history and road trips. Nick is predeceased by his brothers, Alex, George, Bill, Charlie and Metro; by his sisters, Victoria Geretzky and Helen Lazun. Nick leaves to celebrate his life his beloved wife of 61 years, Minnie; his son, Lionel Andrusiek of Yorkton; his daughter, Marilyn Andrusiak Stroshein of Isla Mujeres, Mexico; his four grandchildren and their families, Joel (Brandi) Kortmeyer and son, Colton of Vegreville; Bobby (Erin) Kortmeyer and their children Broden, Brooke and Hayden of Saskatoon; Dustin Kortmeyer of Canora and Danielle (Kevin) Kortmeyer Drobot and son, Riley of Canora; Nick also leaves his one brother, Harry (Marie) Andrusiak of Regina and his sisters, Rhea Swan of Preeceville and Alice Rictor of Vancouver.
