Preeceville Western Weekend overcomes rain to hold successful event

Along with the featured chariot and chuckwagon races, there were numerous other activities to keep everyone busy

PREECEVILLE - Despite the event СÀ¶ÊÓƵ rained out on Sunday, the activities on Friday and Saturday were well attended.

Friday night kicked off the events with chariot and chuckwagon races sponsored by the Eastern Professional Chariot and Chuckwagon Association. The chariot and chuckwagon races continued on Saturday but only the chariots raced on Sunday with the rest of the events СÀ¶ÊÓƵ cancelled.

A Texas hold-em poker tournament was held on Friday evening after the chariot and chuckwagon races.

There were 34 entries in the chariot races. The top five winners of the overall total were, first to fifth: Cruze Paul A team, Carol Hooge, Casey Peterson B team, Cruze Paul (different team) and Brandee Braaten.

There were 28 entries in the chuckwagon races. The top five winners of the overall total were, first to fifth: Wayne Salmond, Casey Peterson, Ryan Peterson, Larry Salmond and Ray Rooks.

On Saturday afternoon children had the opportunity to play on inflatable bouncing castles and the playground equipment provided some extra entertainment. Children also had the chance to have their faces painted and to dig in the sand for loonies.

On Saturday there were four teams entered in the co-ed slo-pitch ball tournament. The team of Balls Deep won the championship followed by Scared Hitless who achieved second place.

The mini trade show was held on Saturday with six vendors. Megan Maier sold honey, Kathy Naclia featured Scentsy products, Denise Gogol featured floral arrangements and a variety of knitted products, Joe Preston was promoting music lessons for a variety of instruments, Violet Gibb featured knitted items, and Cari Graham displayed knitted and various other items.

A car show and shine featured 11 entries, including Metro Chornomitz with a 1955 GMC pick-up. Craig Sandager had two entries, a 1949 Ford and a 1952 Chevy truck. Brian Ager showed a 1951 Ford truck, and Pat Formo had a 2012 Chrysler convertible. Bob Bartch brought two entries, a 1949 Rover and a 1937 Ford. Ed Balyski displayed a 1968 Ford convertible, Gary Statchuk had a 2001 truck, Laurie Meberg brought a 1952 McCormick tractor and Phil Murrin showed a 1969 El Camino.

Call Me Mildy supplied the music for the open air dance.

Sunday morning was kicked off with a pancake breakfast followed by a Christian cowboy service at the sportsgrounds.

The Preeceville Community Hall sponsored bingo games under the big top during the weekend.

The magician, Magic Jay from Melfort, entertained both children and adults on the grounds.

A gymkhana, sponsored by the Etomamie Valley Riders Club, was held on Saturday but was cancelled on Sunday due to wet conditions on the infield of the track.

A concession and beer gardens were available on both days.

The Preeceville Volunteer Fire Department was responsible for keeping the track watered for dust control and firemen sold 50/50 tickets. KevRhon Transport supplied a water-tanker for watering the track.

Pink Ladies food truck featured sweet treats and food, and Phoenix Galay featured a snow cone booth.
