STURGIS — The Sturgis Kin Club Annual Duck Derby was a little different this year. Traditionally the derby would have taken place at the Sturgis Regional Park but the water level was too high and had caused some of the park to be flooded, which closed the park to public access.

The club decided to do a barbecue hamburger or hotdog lunch followed by a draw for the winning ducks at the Sturgis Kin Club on June 5. There were 595 plastic ducks sold and members filled a large inflatable bouncy castle with the ducks, and let children bounce and mix up the ducks prior to getting four children to each separately go in and draw one duck.

"This year we wanted to include the Sturgis Kin Kids Club and decided since we could not use the park as we normally would have we set up an inflatable bouncy castle and had them draw the top four winning ducks," said Ashten Langille, club representative.

The Kin Club children who had the opportunity to pick the winning ducks were: Hunter Modeland, Grady Lario, Nicholas Chalupiak and Aida Blender.

Kin club members who helped with the draw were: Chris Walker, Ashten Langille, Daniel Wasylenchuk, Lecia Chalupiak. Tyler Blender and Meghan Morton-Blender.

Cassidy Touchette won first place, Connor Prestie placed second, Cindy Gazdewich placed third, and Narissa Zubko won fourth place.
