OUTLOOK - On November 11, a Remembrance Day service in the community of Outlook was held - perhaps appropriately so - in Veterans Memorial Park. Marking the first time the event was held in the new outdoor space, members of Outlook Branch #262 of the Royal Canadian Legion welcomed a large turnout of people who came to pay their respects.
Branch president John McPhail welcomed everyone before the Colour Party marched in, accompanied by the RCMP.
In his remarks, John looked at the sprawling crowd of people who were in attendance and was glad to see the successful turnout.
"Looking at the forecast on Monday of this week, I wasn't sure if perhaps the Royal Canadian Legion would be standing here alone," said McPhail. "So, I really thank you sincerely for this massive turnout on a cold November morning."
Despite the brisk temperatures, the park space was filled to the brim with people who watched and listened to an act of remembrance, as well as a prayer by Branch 262's padre, Pastor Mac de Waal. Later, as the Colour Party marched off with the flags, McPhail invited people to the Legion Hall for a chili lunch, thanking them for their attendance.
The Outlook branch of the Royal Canadian Legion received its charter on February 8, 1946. Today, due to the commitment by its members and strong community support, the branch is still going 76 years later.
