OUTLOOK - This past weekend's Telemiracle 46 telethon fundraiser ended up setting a whole new record as the people of Saskatchewan continued to 'ring those phones' and open their hearts (and wallets) to ensure another very successful year.
When all was said and done, the event raised a total of $8,002,722 by the time the show had ended at 5:00 on Sunday afternoon, etching a whole new status in the record books.
Two donations made during the telecast helped contribute to the overwhelming success.
Jocelyn Turrell, along with daughter Sawyer, were onstage on Sunday afternoon, March 6 in order to present funds that were raised from the annual auction event that's held in the tiny community of Demaine, with a population of 17 people. This year's event raised $20,506 for Telemiracle, and it was said that overall, the event has generated $225,000 over a span of 21 years.
As well, a planned giving request was carried out when the daughters of the late Brian Watson made a presentation. Brian, who passed in November 2020, grew up and lived on the family farm in the Dinsmore area for almost his entire life. Loving his life as a farmer, Watson was the recipient of the Century Family Farm Award in 2005.
Known as a kind, loving man with a great sense of humor, family was important to Brian, and he made sure to stay active in the community of Dinsmore. He was involved with many boards and projects over the years, and he was known as someone who wasn't afraid to step up to the plate and help out where needed. A member of the Dinsmore Kinsmen Club, Brian made sure not to miss any district conventions, and he always made sure the TV was on during Telemiracle.
Watson's family was very proud to make a bequest on behalf of him in the incredible amount of $150,000.
