Census shows population growth tick for Outlook

Numbers highlighted for Lake Diefenbaker region
Town Sign Updated

OUTLOOK - The data from the recently-released Canada Census shows that the town of Outlook is seeing some growth.

First off, the 2021 Census data shows that the province of Saskatchewan grew in population by 3.1% to 1,132,505 residents.  This was an increase over the 2016 numbers, which saw the province at a population of 1,098,352.

As for Outlook, the data shows that the town experienced a growth of 2.5%, with 2,336 residents in 2021.  This is up by 57 from the 2016 Census, which had Outlook's population at 2,279.  It may be important to note, however, that it has been said in recent years by town officials that the Census data "got it wrong" in 2016, pointing to perhaps a missed neighborhood in Outlook that wasn't counted.  Whatever the case may be, these are the numbers as determined by Census Canada.

If one dates back to 2006 and moves forward to today, it shows a population growth of just under 400 people in 15 years for Outlook.  The Census data for 2006 showed a population for the town at 1,938 residents.  Outlook's biggest bump up would come over the next five years, as 2011 showed a substantial increase at 2,204 residents.

Looking at the numbers around the regional area, we see that from a population standpoint, things are largely the same with the odd tick up or down in certain communities.  Population numbers for local areas include the following:
