Time to think ahead #2

Outlook is a beautiful town with so much potential. We have a great Regional Park with a wonderful golf course. We had a swimming pool in the park but valley instability ended that facility. Thankfully, we have a new pool far from the valley and it鈥檚 set to open on July 1. I鈥檓 sure it鈥檒l be a destination of choice for many people who can stay in the park.

Valley instability led to the closing of Skytrail, a scenic walk that was sought by many tourists from across North America. I believe we should 鈥渂ite the bullet鈥 and have the study completed so we know what needs to be done to restore Skytrail and be in a position to access infrastructure grants as they come. Camp Outlook is another casualty of the moving valley. For several years Teen Missions has been preparing for major construction in order to open the camp. Now, GeoTech engineers have put an end to that development. Soon everything that is down there will be demolished and the area will go back to nature. A sad end to a camp of which many have fond memories. Teen Missions will look for another camp and leave Outlook.

We need growth in Outlook. It鈥檚 nice to hear our Civic Centre is in line for a major upgrade. This town needs a clean, attractive facility for wedding receptions, concerts, dances, and the performing arts. It could be a venue to attract functions we haven鈥檛 had before. The West Side irrigation plan is again in the news. Let鈥檚 hope it鈥檚 more than talk. We could use the added irrigation capacity. Maybe, our area with its intensive irrigated agriculture could develop some local industries which process our potatoes, lentils, peas and beans. We have a winery - what could be next?

LCBI has been a fixture in Outlook for over 100 years, bringing students and staff from afar. Outlook has benefited from the presence of this school for a long time. Many residents of Outlook were former employees at that institution who purchased homes here and contributed financially to the businesses and paid taxes to the Town. The School has been going through some fiscal difficulties but it looks promising once again. This Town can not afford to see LCBI disappear from our midst.

I鈥檓 sure individual citizens have their own ideas for the betterment of Outlook. Let鈥檚 get a conversation started. Hopefully, we can start getting together for those chats but until then encourage people to step forward to lead our town into this next decade, a time of promise.
