Government should follow rules

I was looking at local newspapers from across the province on Monday and came across a story about a Saskatchewan resort near Watrous that has had a pool closure because of water filtration standards.

I was looking at local newspapers from across the province on Monday and came across a story about a Saskatchewan resort near Watrous that has had a pool closure because of water filtration standards.

When I clicked to read more, the story had already been taken down from one of Saskatchewan's daily newspaper websites. The story was still visible on CBC's website and it makes me wonder if the mighty advertising dollar is playing a role in what kind of coverage this receives. You will notice, I have not named the resort. My only other further comment is that if the government has certain standards for a business to abide by in order to remain open, then abide by them.

I used to hear countless stories from people older than me when I was a teenager about how much more difficult it was for those individuals as compared to my life. So, it was refreshing a little while ago when my mom paid me a nice compliment and said, "I wouldn't want to raise kids today. Everyone is just so busy."

Speaking of busy, I get tired just watching Leone Ottenbreit. An incredible lady! Anyway, the 13th annual Brayden Ottenbreit Close Cuts for Cancer Head-Shaving Event will be held on May 29 at 10 a.m. at the Parkland Mall. If you want to participate or volunteer, call the Canadian Cancer Society Office at 782-2788.

If you have a moment, stop and think of some of the people that are prominent in our community and then let your imagination wander into where Yorkton would be on the map without these individuals. Most of these people that volunteer with events and charities are those that have the least amount of time. Today, I salute you.

I decided a couple of weeks ago that I'd try my hand at coaching Mosquito 'A' baseball this year. I'm not sure how I'll fare, but if the majority of the kids want to play next year; then that has to be a good thing.

Full marks to the Yorkton Terriers Board of Directors for making the right choice and naming Trent Cassan as the long term head coach and assistant General Manager to the newly appointed Don Chesney, who gets the GM title as well as the marketing moniker. Chesney will be a real good mentor for Cassan, who in my opinion, can handle both the coach and GM duties more than adequately; but having Chesney around provides a safety net for a guy who is going into his first full season leading junior hockey players.

I can't believe the Montreal Canadiens' fans that are coming out of the woodwork after their series win over Washington. The reason why they won is simple: Jaroslav Halak. Don't listen to the experts on television. It has nothing to do with game plan or anything else. The Habs are badly outplayed nightly and if Halak stands in there like he has so far, they have a chance to win just as much as any other team that's left in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Ask a Habs fan what he thought of Halak as opposed to Carey Price prior to the Olympics and you would get a lot of support for Price 小蓝视频 the goalie of choice. The fact is this: Halak has been the best goalie in Montreal for the last three years and only now is he getting his due respect from his own fans and brass.

This week's nice person list includes Gord Ross, Jason Sliva, Tom Courville, Brian Dudar, Larry Kitchen, and Rick Perepeluk.
