Over the years, Canora has grown, not so much in population, which of course, has had its peaks and valleys, but in varied cultures.
To date, people of at least 14 different cultures or more are all residents of Canora, and they are deserving of recognition and respect by all of us. All of these people of varied cultures from around the world pay taxes, which, of course, becomes public monies. How much of this money goes towards maintaining the Ukrainian welcome statue mounted on public property?
The statue therefore gives the impression that only Ukrainians live here.
This seems to be unfair to other cultures. The mounted plaque on the statue also states that this is a Ukrainian town. This of course is not true, as Canora has, and always will be, a Saskatchewan town.
In order to clear the air as to what is best for Canora, it might be advisable for the town council to check with the Human Rights Commission and the Criminal Laws of Canada regarding discrimination. They might find that discrimination of any kind is against the law, and therefore make arrangements to remove the statue.
Let a new welcome sign that represents all of us take its place.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The year 2017 is Canada鈥檚 150th birthday. Let us therefore celebrate that all cultures have contributed to the growth and well-小蓝视频 of our town.
