Matt Kustra of Yorkton will be trading in his yellow and black Sacred Heart football uniform for the red and white of the Notre Dame Hounds.
The 14-year-old product of the Sacred Heart High School and Yorkton Minor Football programs attracted attention from Notre Dame and was told of it by the school back in the winter, he said.
"It's a big decision," he said during AAA Midget hockey tryouts here last weekend.
The Athol Murray College of Notre Dame is an international Catholic, co-educational, college preparatory boarding school for students in Gr. 9-12. The college is located in the village of Wilcox, south of Regina.
He'll hopefully be playing at the Bantam AAA level for one of two spots in net.
Kustra was one of a handful of youngsters who played on the first Pee Wee football team in Yorkton.
He played for Jason Farrell who coached that team.
Farrell said he likes where Kustra's mentality is, both as a person and as a football player.
"Matt possesses everything a coach looks for in a player - strong, fast and most of all, a level of aggression that is rarely found and almost impossible to teach. He is a quiet leader who leads by example and shows the utmost respect for his coaches.
As a product of the first crop of (Yorkton) Gridders, I am really looking forward to watching his future unfold. I am so proud of Matt and the Yorkton Minor Football Program."
