Yorkton's Denaye Giroux was out west this past weekend, completing the opening round of the western women's Canadian National Series held in Kamloops, British Columbia.
She said the weather was hot and humid and the temperature reached plus-28.
"Track conditions were the roughest they have ever seen on this track," she said via Blackberry.
It made "racing the survival of the fittest".
She said she felt good after practice in which she had her fastest lap times but finished second overall.
Her racing team manager Jackie Maffenbeier said Giroux wasn't thrilled with her second-overall finish, adding that she had her sights set on first place and Giroux had "a couple bad crashes".
"I had a decent start," explained Giroux, "but when passing for the lead, got taken out and crashed".
It took her some time to get her bike up and going again, but on her second last lap, "made a mistake and crashed into a pillion turning in one of the corners and fell over".
The crash resulted in her second place finish.
She is now set for Nanaimo, BC., for the second round.
Giroux wishes to thank her sponsors: Yamalube, Schrader's, SMX Racing. Troy Lee Designs, Gaerne, Yorkton Dodge, Limenine, Oakley, Supertracs, Orb Clothing, Husky, Dr.D exhausts, SSS suspension, Renthal, Works Connection, GYTR, Dunlop, Kinsmen Club of Yorkton, IBEW, Outdoor Sporting and Construction and she sends a big thank you to her father for his support through the years.
